MAKE: An Evening Celebrating Those Who Do

There are people who are in this industry for the passion and those who are in it for the paycheck. And personally, I much prefer to work with the former.

So when my art directors and I were tasked with planning a keg party for the Denver advertising community, we used the assignment as an opportunity to recruit new employees and vendors who genuinely care about producing great work. Our invitations we’re three-fold. First, we hand-stenciled a series of wooden posters and sent photos of them to local industry blogs. Then, we picked up an industrial sheet of aluminum, turned it into a street art-inspired sign, and cut it into 48 unique, handmade invitations. Finally, we produced a promotional video with footage we captured along the way.

The party was a huge success. We had a professional street artist and plenty of spray paint on hand. And we set up an instagram aggregator and screens throughout the party so people could show off their tagging skills. Once the fumes had settled and the paint had dried, the agency had made dozens new friends and a whole lot of new wall art.
